Let’s Get Technical: Get Under the Skin of the RC
By now, you’ve probably seen Lexus’ RC from every angle possible. If you haven’t
you can get a good look at it here. Style is important and everything… But what about the substance?
Considering Lexus’ recent focus on building cars that can really handle, it shouldn’t come as a suprise that they’ve done the suspension in this car right. The rear end is a multi-link setup, which means, they’ve likely tuned it to keep the RC’s tire geometry at optimal angles when shifting weight and cornering hard. For a car with a lot of power going through the rear-end, this is important. It’s not ideal for drag racing, but for he RC specifically, a rear-multilink setup means it’ll corner well and ride comfortably.
They’ve opted for a double wishbone setup up front, likely for weight and cost and packaging reasons. The front wheels aren’t being driven, so the less stuff you have up there the better. This also probably means it’ll get a good amount of steering angle out of the box. It’ll likely have good turning circle. Also drifting.
