BREAKING NEWS: New 2014 Lexus IS F SPORT Revealed

Bold and new are terms that have been synonymous with Lexus lately and the new 2014 Lexus IS is no exception. This morning a handful of photos leaked from a Chinese auto website with photos that appear to be official photos from Lexus. A few hours later Lexus UK stepped up to the plate and released the official set of new Lexus IS Photos!

The feature photos are of an IS 250 F SPORT Ultra White with Rioja Leather Interior. Lexus made it clear that the new 3rd Generation IS would have a bold new look with LFA-like stylng. With a lot of hints coming from the LFA & LF-CC Concept Car, it appears they kept their promise and nailed it! Here are some observations of the new IS:

EXTERIOR:

Front 3/4
  • Spindle Grille: One piece with no break point (Just like LF-CC)
  • Front Headlamps: Dual Projector-type which could possibly be the first use of LED headlamps.
  • DRL/Swoosh: The L shaped LED lamps are finally seperated from the headlamp assembly (Like LF-CC)
  • Front Bumper: Strong, sculpted front fascia with brake cooling ducts contoured outside the spindle grille.
  • Wheels: Split 5 Spoke Graphite (Like LFA)
  • Foglamps: Where are they?!

Rear 3/4:
  • Rear Taillamps: Are an evolutionary design from 2nd Gen IS which appear to be LED type with L shapes integrated into the lens (New LS). The strong body line from the taillamp into the rear rocker panels create a "sweep up" look, reminiscent of the rocker panels on the LFA and a winglet on an airplane wing.
  • Rear Bumper: Dual Exhaust with large lower black valence. Look closely and you will see the vortex generators to help reduce aerodynamic drag.

Side:
  • Doors: The rear door glass has a familiar "kick up" from previous generation IS models.
  • Badging: Corporate F SPORT badge stays in a familiar place on the fender.
  • Rocker Panels: Instead of a flat panel, a nice upswept winglet-look gives the new IS an LFA-like look.

INTERIOR:

The new IS interior is gorgeous. The interior is so nice, it's hard to figure out where to start. The most notable change to the new IS interior is the leather & trim color. This IS F SPORT features a new Rioja Red leather trim which is reminicent of the 2013 GS F SPORT's Cabernet leather interior. A new larger display graces the center dash cluster. We're hoping this is the same high-res 12.3" display unit from the GS. Remote Touch controller & Drive Mode Select buttons finally make their way to the center console. A Lexus first, an electrostatic switch operates the climate control. Dual cup holders are now unobstructed on the console. The interior is graced with a lot of nice contrasting silver aluminum trim as well as soft touch trim strategically placed where it counts!

The front seats look very inviting and comfortable. The optimum lower seat and steering wheel angle allows for the best driving feel. The nicely stitched leather outlines the large and supportive bolsters which will help with high speed cornering. The center armrest appears to be the same height as the armrests on the doors. The black headliner is retained for this IS F SPORT model.

Last but not least, the very high tech LCD TFT display from the Lexus LFA has made it''s home in the new IS F SPORT. With the center ring being the only mechanical moving part, the high resolution screen will display the most important information, faster than a conventional analog cluster.

We're very excited about the 3rd Generation IS as this platform is one of Lexus' most enthusiast-centric vehicle. We can't wait to hear about all the details coming next week from Detroit.

Scott Whiting (Wed, 09 Jan 2013 18:39:55 -0800): Love the gauge cluster and the sport and sport plus modes. The rest of the interior, not so much. The front grill and headlights are awful and the rear end looks like a 3 series. Actually glad I bought a 2012 350 F sport and didn't wait for this.
Petar Dimitrov (Wed, 09 Jan 2013 19:38:40 -0800): love it! I can already see it lowered on some wide wheels! purrty!
(Wed, 09 Jan 2013 20:11:53 -0800): who ever says this car does not look good is crazzzzyyy! the front end is SICK!
Matthew Yee-Fong (Wed, 09 Jan 2013 20:53:54 -0800): Interior=YES Exterior=Still growing on me, but still neat. It's a design that may not agree with some, but for me, I accept it. Apparently this is still part prototype, so some things might change...
Leila L. AlJuwaie (Wed, 16 Jan 2013 05:55:43 -0800): That interior is classy as hell. I love the aggressive front end and the gauge cluster.
Michael Nguyen (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 08:17:10 -0800): When did bill gates become the spokes person for auto guide?
Bojan Gagic (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 08:45:44 -0800): Alright Lexus you have me 30% sold this car is a beauty now the rest of the 70% is IF the IS 350 comes MANUAL, please make in MANUAL Ive been waiting forever for this, I was a proud owner of the IS 300 manual and loved it as well as I am a proud owner of IS 250 also MANUAL, I want a stronger car with more HP which is the 350 but if it doesn't come MANUAL I am not going to buy this car, if you want to stay competitive with the BMW M and 3 series you need to make these cars in MANUAL, 8 speed is nice and all but I will never give up on my FUN with the clutch....
Todd Yamashita (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 09:57:42 -0800): Finally a LEXUS Interior and NOT a TOYOTA Interior.
Scott Houran (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 11:55:05 -0800): You give up fun with the clutch and 104 horsepower with the 250. I'll take my 350 with auto without blinking over the smaller engine
Scott Houran (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 11:58:14 -0800): My fully loaded 350 doesn't have a "Toyota" interior so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Maybe the base 250 with no options? They need to increase the horsepower on the entire IS line to keep up with competitors, and I don't see that being addressed in the next model year. Correct me if that's wrong.
David Cole (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 15:31:09 -0800): Convertible? that's what I want.
Bojan Gagic (Tue, 22 Jan 2013 17:38:37 -0800): well i just love manual so much i would sacrifice power for it but i want the new 350 to be manual then i can get my 104 HP that Ive always been waiting for, if that doesn't happen then good bye Lexus, maybe BMW, but i am hopping it doesn't come to that
David Tai Tran (Wed, 23 Jan 2013 00:39:47 -0800): Eh, I just drive my IS350 with the ECT on and it provides sporty response. You can go with 335i if you want the cheap interior and less comfortable ride. Yeah, it'll beat the Lexus in terms of performance, but with the extra cost of the 335i over the IS350, you'd think they'd spend a few extra thousand to make it nice inside.
Todd Yamashita (Thu, 24 Jan 2013 23:27:02 -0800): My fully loaded 350 DOES have a Toyota quality interior. Compare it to the 3-series REAL wood trim or the A4's aesthetic, my IS is rubber and plastic
