Matte Black Lexus IS F Sport in Norway

I’m going on record here and saying I’m not a huge fan of the matte movement, black paint especially. The trend has been something of a thorn we’ve seen develop as the do-all, end-all paint scheme for all things RACECAR/LUXURY/BADASS. It was made worse by the tuner community’s obsession with blotchy, spray-paint “matte” paint jobs. Because, you know, racecar.

So through the years, we’ve seen the matte movement move forward into different colors, even production cars come through without nice, shiny clearcoats.

But one thing that’s always gotten to me is that it’s never been clear what ‘role’ the black matte paint job plays. Indication of sporty? Sure. What about high-end luxo sedans? Does it actually mean luxury? Sure. Why not?

Frustrating, is it not?

Either way – here’s a matte black Lexus IS F Sport from Norway and you know what? I quite like it. In fact, these photos have gotten me to reconsider what role black matte actually plays – not necessarily the defining trait for any type of car, but on a case by case basis, depending on the car.

Purely subjective of course, but I think the IS here looks great in matte because of its aggressive lines and stance. +1 for sporty quality. And don’t even get me started on the CF hood, trunk, and goddamn gorgeous trunk lip. And it’s an h to boot.
