IS Convertible Finally Gets F’d!
With the current expansion of the F marque across the Lexus lineup the IS Convertible finally gets the F SPORT package treatment. So does this mean a 416HP 5.0L V8 IS F Convertible is on the horizon? Not quite, but we can only hope for a true F version in the future.
Previously, Lexus USA offered their version of the IS Convertible “F SPORT” with limited edition special builds and F SPORT Accessories already packaged. For 2013 Lexus has given the Lexus IS Convertible new aesthetics with the factory F SPORT treatment.
A departure from the norm, the IS C F SPORT gains the F SPORT sedan’s carved front fascia with lower front spoilers with upper and lower mesh grilles instead of the IS C’s specific front fascia. Also from the F SPORT sedan, the IS C rides on a set of 18″ graphite finished split 5 spoke wheels and gains a sport suspension setup for greater road feel and performance. To top it off, signature F SPORT badges on the fenders complete the package.
On the inside, the IS C F SPORT gains most of the F SPORT sedan’s features except the very supportive front buckets from the IS F. A welcome black headliner replaces the alabaster version, silver metallic trim finish accents the center console and door switches, aluminum door sills greet you upon entry and a leather wrapped F SPORT steering wheel adds the finishing touch.Unfortunately the powertrain and transmission offerings are carryovers, but the available F SPORT accessories can be added to somewhat satisfy those with a performance need.
The F SPORT model is a welcome addition and the sporty front end looks proper on this IS droptop. It’s great that Lexus is embracing the sport world, but it would be more desirable if there were was more horsepower involved. Perhaps Lexus will address this in the next generation IS? We’ll have to wait and see.
