How-To Tuesday: Replacing the Thermostat in Your Lexus ES
As a wrench-aphobic, I can fully appreciate the type of person who leaves all under-the-hood fixes up to the mechanic. Before today, I would never even think about replacing my own thermostat. But after watching the How-To Tuesday video below, and reading the corresponding article, I think I got this.
Apparently, your car’s thermostat is awfully important, because it maintains the operating temperature, which makes sure the antifreeze and coolant are properly flowing. If your thermostat is on the fritz, you could be looking at a number of issues that might make your engine run rich, which could result in excessive fuel intake, high idle, excessive cabin temp, and even engine overheating.
These all sound like fairly bad things, but worry not, for a moderately easy fix is a mere two to three hours away, at a nominal cost of just $20 to $50. But you do need some extra materials. And it is a bit of a pain to remove all the components.
Still, the video and the article break down the whole process for you into six easy steps. Our How-To staff just makes this one look like a breeze. Keep in mind, the information conveyed is specifically for Lexus ES model years 2007 through 2014. But the information should still come in handy for all would-be thermostat fixers.
So what are you waiting for? Get to it, then let us know how it went on the forum.
