How-To Tuesday: Getting Your Stuck Shifter Into Gear
Fortunately, today’s How-To Tuesday article and video probably won’t seem very pertinent to many of you Lexus owners out there. Sure, we like to cater to as many people as possible, but we’d really be happier if no one needed this DIY advice at all. Alas, there are those unfortunate few dealing with a stuck or unresponsive shifter. And we’re here for you.
If your shifter finds itself in such a state, the first thing to do is relax, take a deep breath, and tell yourself that there’s probably nothing wrong with the transmission. As articulated in today’s How-To article (which you can read here) and corresponding video (which you can see below), electronics have a way of making some things seem broken, which really aren’t.
In the article called “Why Won’t My Lexus Go Into Gear?,” our How-To writers talk you down from the ledge of a very expensive mechanic’s bill, and help you troubleshoot and fix the shifting problem in your Lexus IS, ES, GS, and RX models between 2005-2013.
The article (and video) will give you great insight into disengaging the shift interlock system, switching the paddle shifter mode, and reaching normal operating temperature to get you out of fifth gear when it’s cold outside.
