How-To Tuesday: Build Your Own Lexus Sun Shade

If you’re like most everyone else in the Northern Hemisphere at the moment, you’re probably pretty close to melting. Especially when you get back into your Lexus after it’s been sitting in the sun for a few hours. But fear not, DIY relief is here in the form of your very own self-made sun shade!

When I first glanced at this article found in our “How-Tos” section titled, “Lexus: How to Make Your Own Sun Shade,” I couldn’t help but wonder why you’d want to make your own sun shade as opposed to spending 10 bucks on one at Walmart. Sure, it’s a cheap and easy DIY project, but isn’t it cheaper and easier to go to Walmart?

Well, the article gives us our reason, right up front: “Professionally made sun shades cost double the price and may not be custom-fitted to your windshield.”

See, we’re talking custom here, folks. This isn’t your average hack sun shade that just goes into your windshield all willy-nilly. Oh no, this one fits better than O.J.’s glove. No more rays of light peering in to ruin your leather and burn the back of your thighs. Custom, baby.

And you can even paint it anyway you like. You want a portrait of your family? Paint on. You want a portrait of Wayne and Garth singing “Bohemian Rhapsody”? Go for it. If you can dream it (and paint it or print it), you can have it on your highly personalized DIY sun shade. You can even add UV protective clear coat to keep all those harmful rays at bay.

It’s all covered in the article, so head on over there to get your DIY on. As far as useful accessories go, they don’t get much cheaper and easier. And you still get that extra fulfilling gulp of self-satisfaction from doing it yourself.
