The "global premier of a new hybrid model" has been introduced this past weekend as the GS 300h at the 2013 Auto Shanghai. This high efficiency hybrid GS model joins the 4th Generation GS line up as the 2nd hybrid variant and the 4th model overall. This new GS 300h will only be available in select Asian and European Lexus markets.

As expected, the GS 300h will feature the 2AR-FSE, 2.5L 4 cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine mated to the ultra smooth Lexus Synergy Drive. This powertrain is shared with the all-new 2014 Lexus IS 300h. Lexus expects a low CO2 emissions of 100g/km. No exact specs or options have been published at this time, we expect several option levels including top line Luxury and F SPORT models. Despite the great efficiency this new GS 300h, we unfortunately will not get this model in North America.

What do you think of this new GS 300h? Should we get this in North America? Let's talk about it! >>

Official Lexus UK Release:

LEXUS GS 300H DEBUTS AT SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW

  • Lexus to expand its GS range with new full hybrid  GS 300h
  • Lexus targets CO2 emissions of below 110g/km for GS 300h
  • New model unveiled today at the Shanghai Motor Show
  • UK sales to start in late 2013

Lexus revealed the next stage in the expansion of its GS range today with the unveiling of its new GS 300h saloon at the Shanghai motor show.

The new model will be competing at the heart of the premium executive market, with a focus on fleet and business customers. Its rear-wheel drive powertrain features a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with D-4S direct injection technology, and a compact, powerful electric motor. Lexus's target of CO2 emissions below 110g/km will make the GS 300h one of the most efficient models in its class.

The GS 300h will join Lexus's UK model range late this year; it will also be sold in global markets including China, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It joins the GS 450h and GS 250 in the UK, and the GS 350 and 350 AWD (all-wheel drive) models, which are available elsewhere.

The new GS was introduced in spring 2012 and recorded 47,787 worldwide sales by the end of the year, almost six times the total its predecessor model achieved in 2011.
