ALTON, Virginia – Doncaster Racing dominated the three-hour Grand-Am Cup race at Virginia International Raceway today. Scott Maxwell started the #76 Porsche GT 3 Cup on the pole, and his co-driver David Empringham captured the checkered flag. The pair led the entire race to dethrone Powell Motorsports in the point standings after Powell suffered engine woes. Doncaster’s #7 Porsche finished second, closely followed by TF Racing’s #47 Saleen Mustang.

Shreiner Racing’s #30 Mustang Cobra R edged out the points-leading #53 Mustang of Max Q Motorsports to capture the Grand Sport II win. Shreiner’s Jeff Lapcevich passed Max Q’s Nick Longhi at the start/finish line with only three laps remaining in the race to capture the GS II victory. The Theetge Motorsports #73 Acura NSX finished third in the class.

It was a fight to the end in the Sport Touring I class, with the top-three cars in the class running within a half a second of each other with only three laps remaining in the race. The Team Lexus #0 IS300 made a late charge to the front, but the King Motorsports #64 Acura Integra R surpassed it on lap 100 of the 102-lap race to capture its second checkered flag of the season. Team Lexus finished second, followed by the #36 BMW Z3 of Villaconn International in third.

After leading for nearly the entire race, Villaconn’s #34 BMW, which won the last two races, finished in fourth place after fading in the closing laps.

Brothers Will and Wayne Nonnamaker earned their first win of the season together in the Sport Touring II class. Wayne started the HRPworld.com #41 Acura Integra LS at the front of the ST II field and took it to a tremendous lead before handing the reigns over to his older brother Wayne. The team’s second entry, the #42 Acura Integra LS, finished second in the class, followed by the Team Ford Focus Racing #88 ZX3 with its first-ever podium finish.

Grand-Am Cup will travel next to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the CART Grand Prix, August 8-10. Additional information about the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series is available online at www.grand-am.com.
