GAZOO-ks! Lexus and Toyota Consolidate Racing Tech

As the old saying goes: “Win on Sundays, sell on Mondays.” Or the rest of the week for that matter.

It’s a proven formula, indeed, and not one that Lexus or Toyota has been ignoring, but in the future, they may just do a much better job of making the math add up. That’s because Toyota and Lexus are consolidating all their varied racing efforts under one umbrella: GAZOO Racing.

Toyota Racing, Lexus Racing, and GAZOO Racing teams have all been at this whole motorsports thing for a while now, with varying degrees of success as far as the whole Sunday part of that equation goes. But Toyota is hoping the consolidation of motorsports power will lead to more powerful cars on Sunday, which will lead to more fun for the rest of us.

Here’s the part of Toyota’s press release that really piqued my lead foot:

GAZOO Racing in particular was created to expand the role of promoting motorsports beyond that of traditional automakers, and carry out grassroots activities aimed at creating new and ever-growing generations of car enthusiasts.

So now all the motorsporting efforts of Lexus and Toyota will work under the GAZOO umbrella, and sure, the various racing teams should improve, but it’s the enthusiasts who are really the ones who will benefit. Connecting  racecars with road cars, yeah, that’s good for us.

Don’t worry, as a Lexus enthusiast, you’ll still see the brand plastered on the Lexus racecars. “In private races such as Super GT where Lexus-brand vehicles are used, the Lexus GAZOO Racing logo will be displayed,” the press release goes on to say. And just so you don’t think they’re giving us lip service there, they included the logo as well, shone above.

So where do I get my hat?
