Flashback Friday: Lexus LFA + Rainy Day Donuts
[ When we first published this post, nobody had driven the RC F yet, and we were still salivating over the forthcoming sports coupe, and we hadn’t seen the NX in anything but concept form. One thing that hasn’t changed since then is how cool it is to see the LFA do donuts in the rain. Enjoy –Eds. ]
To be honest, words can’t begin to describe how this video makes me feel. But off the top of my head, I can think of a few. Envious, queasy, and excited. In no particular order of importance or preference.
For most, dark clouds and wet roads means anything but taking your $375,000 super car out for a spin, let alone performing a brutally delicate waltz and leaving dozens of dark circular streaks on the pavement.
Just listen in as the engine screams and bumps against the 4.8-liter V10’s 9,000 RPM redline, and the tires squeal desperately to find traction on the wet tarmac. The front tires eventually find some semblance of stability, and the fiery red LFA immediately hooks into a series of tightly wound donuts that prompt the driver to raise his arms up triumphantly in the air.
Damn it, I wish they’d bring this car back. As of now, the LFA has no successor planned, but with a new 5.0 liter V8 in Lexus’ stable and the RC F on the way, a supercar level concepts in the works, and a strong push towards Toyota Racing’s developments, we’re confident something amazing will be just around the bend.
