If They Even Could, Should Lexus Bring Back the LFA?
For good reason, many Lexus enthusiasts are beyond the moon about the upcoming LC 500 sports coupe. And we’re right there with them.
That said, though it promises to be an exhilarating, top-of-the-line-worthy halo car, it’s kind of unfair to compare it to the LFA. The LFA was an engineering exercise on wheels, but it took forever to build, and jacked up prices into the unattainable realm. And the LC is an engineering marvel that actually makes profitable business sense.
Still, while discussing the LC’s relation to the LFA, CarBuzz‘s Jared Rosenholtz repeats Jeremy Clarkson’s complaints about the RC F’s relation, namely that there isn’t much of one at all. He believes Lexus should come up with another halo model, one more in step with the uber-performance-oriented LFA.
“We don’t think that Lexus needs to recreate a $375,000 LFA, but a car in the $150,000 to $200,000 price might make sense,” writes Rosenholtz.
Sure, it makes sense to Rosenholtz, it’ll give him more to write about. Obviously it’ll fill our pages too. And of course, as enthusiasts, we’d love to see what Lexus might build.
But keep in mind, the 2018 LC 500 will cost roughly $100K when it goes on sale in May. And it’s feasible that an LC F will follow soon after, which might run you north of $125K. So perhaps Lexus should see how well those sell first?
