“Dirty Mike’s” 5-Speed LS 400 is Pure Beast Mode

OK, so purists might want to look away—I know we’ve probably already angered you with our googly eyed celebration of this off-road LS 400.

But everyone who doesn’t think the LS 400 should live its life as a reserved executive sedan should turn up their speakers and prepare for greatness. ClubLexus member Dirty Mike—AKA usoff89—has been documenting the transformation of his 1993 LS 400 from slushbox-sporting luxo-cruiser to three-pedal bruiser, and it’s loaded with goodness.

As you can imagine, it hasn’t been the easiest proposition, and DM bumped into a couple of problems trying to get the five-speed 240 Nissan gearbox to play nice with the stock Lexus engine. But he’s already done the conversion on a SC, so this isn’t his first rodeo.

I’ve posted a couple of videos of this awesome project below. But you owe it to yourself to check out the original thread for the full breakdown.

How good does it sound with the S&S headers?

Here’s how it sounded with open headers, when DM was just testing before embarking on the five-speed swap.

And here’s a clip of it pulling away from a stop.
