Lexus is Considering a High-Performance CT

Lexus CT 200h

The Lexus CT 200h hasn't been flying off lots. Perhaps speed, or lack thereof, is the issue.

The car is slow. It takes more than 10 seconds for the CT 200h to reach 60 miles per hour. That acceleration is almost as depressing as the appreciation rate of a standard interest-bearing savings account.

Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin admitted the car's speed shortcoming to Motoring, saying the luxury automaker "missed a segment of the market for people who want fast cars. A lot of people liked the looks and liked the way it drove" but came away wanting a faster car.

Because of this, Lexus is considering a more powerful CT variant. "If we had a second powertrain in that car, I think we would have done a lot more volume [....] in the future? Maybe we need both."

While nothing is confirmed, if more horsepower equals more sales, hedge your bets on a CT with cojones coming to a Lexus dealer near you.

Brad Ferringer (Tue, 12 Nov 2013 12:00:24 -0800): I would love to see a CT350. Time for Lexus to offer all cars with power. Trust me the customer's ask for it in showrooms and service lanes everyday. Making fast cars wasn't ever meant to make big money. Where you gain is the E63 owner that buys his wife a C350 and kid a CLA250. Just think what a driveway in the burbs can offer advertising wise with a LS-F, RX350 and a IS250. Wake up Lexus! The Fsport cars have helped fill some gap but you still are only 3/4 way up the ladder. Money and sales volume is not all that's important. The LFA gave you the technology. Fact of the matter is the LFA is in the past to the customer base. Making a 4.6L Bi-turbo motor with gas saving technology is nothing more than producing it now a days. Make a 5.4L NA V8 with 550hp with Yamaha intake setup. So what if the option costs 20k. Asking 95-110k for a performance car that's fun as hell to drive is not a big deal these days. If you can afford gas you shouldn't have a 100k+ car. You could hands down own the US market if you wanted to and end all this bashing for lack of performance. Sorry for the rant but this is unexceptionable at this point.

Thomas Van Hoesen (Wed, 13 Nov 2013 05:31:42 -0800): Just use the Camry's hybrid system , done. 200hp or 225hp would suffice. 40mpg all around. Simple solution. If it fits - hey you are Lexus make it fit. I love my CT...you learn to drive it differently almost a challenge to learn its powerband. But I come from the 1970's and this car would smoke those old 4 bangers....I love the car if it were my only car , maybe not. My 750whp Supra makes life fun when I feel the need.
Mikeavelli Forsythe (Wed, 13 Nov 2013 10:48:36 -0800): Actually Manual, the CT has been flying off lots. Its by far the best selling luxury hatch in America and succeeded where the Germans failed. Inventory right now is low as they stopped building the 2013s for the February 2014 launch. The CT has actually exceeded its 15k sales goals so far. Are you a Lexus owner?
Bun Nei (Fri, 22 Nov 2013 11:15:29 -0800): Patience is key guys/girls. The new LF-NX Concept will be using a Turbo 2L 4cyl. We will see it starts to spawn to other model line-ups MOST likely the first other than the NX should be the CT once it's in production. Then who know's perhaps the IS250 2.5L V6 will be replaced by this 2L Turbo engine too.
