Could the End Be Nigh for Lexus GX and LX?
Globally, the LX is one fine selling Lexus. And the GX ain’t too shabby either. But that doesn’t mean their place in the lineup is very safe at all.
That’s certainly what Lexus executive vice president Mark Templin’s recent comments would lead us to believe.
“The future of those vehicles longer term is in doubt because of regulations that are being driven by governments all over the world,” Templin told AutoBlog at the New York International Auto Show recently.
According to AutoBlog, “Templin didn’t give any specifics; he just notes that tightening fuel economy and emissions regulations could affect product planning.”
Templin also said that he believes the RX/NX combination offers strong enough options to cover most of the crossover markets.
The fact that both the LX and GX have been global success stories for Lexus does make this a somewhat bitter pill to swallow. But considering both three-row SUVs are now built on the traditional ladder-frame chassis, and considering the RX has gotten bigger to make room for the NX, you can see why the two biggest cars in the fleet are those we’re most worried about.
Of course, nothing’s even close to being set in stone yet. But what do you think, is it time to start GX and LX collecting?
