Cinderella LFA Upsets No. 2 Seed in Nitto’s Battle of the Streets
In one of the first big upsets of Nitto’s Battle of the Streets, the Lexus LFA completely dismantled the Mercedes AMG C63. In Stuttgart, they’re already calling it “The Tragedy of Los Angeles.”
Somehow the LFA is a No.7 seed in Nitto’s nifty little supercar bracket, which is the tire company’s attempt to co-opt the NCAA basketball tourney’s format for the good of petrolheads the world over. God bless ’em.
Regardless of the seedings, the LFA had no trouble with the No. 2 seeded Black Series C63. Perhaps that’s because the 2012 LFA is packing 557 horsepower, compared to the 2012 C63’s 520 mules. Now compare that to the torque numbers — 384 for the LFA, 457 for the C63 — and you’ve got a clue as to what mattered in this drag race across the 6th Street Bridge, which was respectfully closed by the City of Los Angeles.
Check out footage of the race in the beautifully shot video below, which shows off the epic first day of racing; the LFA/C63 duel comes in around the 2:30 mark. From the second the highly-professional starter drops the flag, we know how this Cinderella story ends.
Though you can no longer make bracket picks, you can still wave your Lexus flag high and root along this pesky little LFA upstart in her quest to be crowned champ. Nitto’s Battle of the Streets is just getting started, and the LFA will need all the help she can get against her April Fool’s Day Round 2 opponent: the 2015 Porsche GT3 (991).
