Lexus GS F vs BMW M5 (Video)
Automotive Scribe Chris Harris Chooses Between the Lexus GS F & BMW M5 ’30 Jahre’ while Driving Some Icy Welsh Roads
Love him or hate, you have to admit that longtime automotive journalist Chris Harris knows a lot about cars. And that he’s seemingly honest about what he likes and dislikes about them. So although we don’t always agree with him, it is illuminating to hear what he has to say about our favorite Lexus rides. That said, such illumination is all the more enjoyable when Harris actually likes the car, as he thankfully does in this case.
Of course, what’s not to like about the Lexus GS F? Well, apparently there are a few things, this being the ever-picky Chris Harris, and all. But as we find out in the new “Chris Harris Drives” video, the good far outweighs the bad. Particularly in comparison to the King of the Super Saloons, the BMW M5.
And this isn’t your “average” M5 either. Oh no, Harris brings out the BMW M5 30 Jahre, which, according to BMW Blog, is the “most powerful car ever to come from BMW M, with 600 hp from its twin-turbo V8.”
That’s quite a bump over the GS F’s 471-hp naturally aspirated V8. In fact, all the numbers stack up against the GS F, when Harris compares them side by side.
But the GS F does have a very distinct advantage in this fight: the weather. See, Harris takes the two saloons to some winterized Welsh roads. Surprisingly, the M5 seems to be too much car for the inclement weather, particularly with the Competition Pack it’s sporting. So much power that Harris actually has a hard time putting it all down on the sketchy roads.
Not so for the GS F.
“Over this road, it’s better than the BMW,” says Harris. “Right now, I’d rather be in the Lexus in terms of its ride and handling compromise.”
See, Chris Harris can actually be very agreeable at times.
