2017 Lexus IS200t Is for Mid-Management Millennials

The IS200t Stands out as the Best Value in the IS Lineup. And Although Not Perfect, the Engine Is Pretty Darn Good

Here at Club Lexus we’ve come to enjoy the IS lineup a whole lot. In a world of bland midsize sedan exterior designs, the IS stands out with a sleek and sporty design. Even if sometimes the engines don’t match the looks, we still love them!

According to a recent review published by the folks at The Drive, the 2017 Lexus IS200t is for the “Middle-managing millennial brought up on Japanese cars looking for a fun sedan from a brand fancy enough to impress their Bumble dates.” Considering the IS is one of the most versatile sedans in the market to fit a plethora of customer-bases, we think such judgement is a bit narrow-minded.

For 2017 the IS200t features a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, which produced 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. For some odd reason Lexus does not offer an all-wheel drive variant with this engine configuration, though we think it’s an up-sell tactic. Overall, the review claims the IS200t is perfect for zipping around town, and its suspension is soft, though it doesn’t sacrifice sporty-ish handling.

Further in the review, the writer mentions that a BMW 330i or Audi A4 would be their choice given a similar budget, but again, we think that’s somewhat missing the point. The main reason why customers flock to Lexus over the Germans is because of reliability, and a $37,825 starting price. The IS200t offers better looks, similar performance, and twice the reliability of the premium Germans. I mean, isn’t that why Lexus manages to steal a huge chunk of market share year over year?
