2017 Lexus IS 200 Provides ‘Plenty of Zip,’ Says CNET
Leading product review publication takes new luxury ride for a test-drive in the hills of NorCal and returns as one of Lexus IS’ biggest fans.
Recently, CNET, the world’s leader in product reviews, took the 2017 Lexus IS 200t F Sport out for a ride in the hills of Northern California. Lexus offers different drive packages on its entry-level sedan, but for this drive, CNET chose the rear-wheel version with the 2.0 turbocharged, four-cylinder engine equipped with the F Sport package.
While not the most powerful of the Lexus models, the IS 200t, with its 241 horsepower, is noted to be “a well-balanced machine with plenty of zip to carve corners and enough comfort to give the German sport sedans a run for their euros.”
The Lexus is furnished with four drive modes — Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow — and the reviewer found two of them, Sport and Normal, to be very similar.
A third mode, Snow, didn’t make the list due to NorCal’s sunny weather, while one did provide the promised fuel efficiency. Speaking of fuel, gas usage is reported at an average of 22 mpg city, 32 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg combined. However, with an admitted heavy foot, the reviewer saw different miles per gallon.
‘The 2017 Lexus IS 200t F Sport is a well-balanced machine with plenty of zip to carve corners and enough comfort to give the German sport sedans a run for their euros.’
The F Sport-tuned suspension, eight-speed transmission and steering were thoroughly put to the test during a 45-mile stretch of twists and turns to mixed opinions, although, for the most part, the reviewer had little complaint.
Mechanics aside, if you’re looking for the 411 on the electrical gadgets, then look no further. CNET goes in depth about the Lexus Enform infotainment system. Let’s just say that you’ll want to read why they “long for the day of low-tech eight-track cassette players” and how the system may be a bit burdensome.
The 2017 Lexus IS 200t has a 5-passenger seating capacity and an overall rating of 7.4. At a starting price of $37,825, this is a great driving car with just enough zip to be make it a fun little ride.
