2016 Lexus GS Safety Features Make it Hard to Be a Bad Driver
Lexus gave us plenty to talk about when they unveiled the new 2016 GS model line at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance recently. And rightly so, the new turbo charged 200t took plenty of the spotlight. But now that we’ve had a minute to let some of the 200t hullabaloo die down, we can take a closer look at some of the other things we learned from the debut, namely the wicked-smart safety futures for the entire model line.
Besides 10 standard airbags, the 2016 GS models feature a number of intelligent safety features, which are included in the Lexus Safety System +. For the sake of understanding what each feature does, let’s break them down one at a time.
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection: The new GS is smart enough to detect potential accidents, using a front camera and radar, and then automatically braking to avoid such detection, if the driver doesn’t react to warnings.
Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist: If you start to veer from your lane, Your GS will let you know. If you have Steering Assist on, your GS will automatically correct your lousy driving. Don’t take it personally.
Intelligent High Beam: You don’t have to go flicking the high beams on and off anymore during those long moonless nights; this feature automatically detects oncoming headlights and taillights, then adjusts the beams for you.
All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Let’s say you’re driving down the highway, and you see an RC 350 ahead, setting a real nice pace. This feature will detect that pace, and automatically set up your cruising speed to follow at present distance.
Traffic Sign Recognition: Your GS knows the future! At least as far as what road signs are coming up.
Impressive stuff. In theory, the Lexus Safety System + is so all encompassing, it’ll actually be hard to be a bad GS driver. Just listen to your GS and let her guide you to safety.
