2011 Lexus LS Review

By -

The 2011 Lexus LS delivers more of the same, remaining largely unchanged from the 2010 model. Where the Lexus shines is in the plethora of optional features that allow customers to customize their vehicle to their exacting standards.

Models

The 2011 Lexus LS 460 can be purchased with a standard or long
wheelbase. Upgrades and packages are available on both models, allowing
drivers to customize their Lexus. Both the long wheelbase and the
standard model come equipped with a powerful 4.6L V8 engine with 380
horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is
available for both models.

Lexus LS 460: The standard length LS 460 begins at $66,000 MSRP.
Despite the cost, the Lexus is roughly $10,000 cheaper than many of its
imported competitors. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels,
power folding and heated headlamps and mirrors, dual-zone climate
control, sunroof, cruise control, keyless ignition and entry,
telescoping and power-tilt steering wheel, power and heated driver and
passenger seats with lumbar support, auto-dimming mirrors, leather
seats, rearview camera, Bluetooth, six-disc CD changer with 10 speaker
audio system, iPod interface and satellite radio.

Lexus LS 460L: Discerning buyers willing to pay the $72,000 MSRP can
upgrade to the Lexus LS 460L. This model has a longer wheelbase,
headlamp washers, automatic high beams, power trunk, power door closers,
parking sensors, rear seat vanity mirrors, ventilated front seats and
heated rear seats, all standard.

Optional Equipment

Both the 460 and the 460L may be upgraded by
purchasing optional packages. These include the Comfort Package (rear
sunshade, upgraded leather trim, rear-seat side airbags, power rear
seats with lumbar massager, ventilation and power headrests), the Sport
Package (19-inch wheels, performance tires, exterior style kit, Brembo
brakes, tuned air suspension, sport seats, upgraded shifter, two-toned
trim and a heated steering wheel), and the Luxury Package, which is
available only on the 460L (upgraded leather upholstery, power rear door
sunshades, rear dual zone climate control, rear audio controls,
refrigerator, rear airbags, rear seats with lumbar massage and upgraded
headrests). An Executive-Class Seating Package is available, adding
upgraded seats. Both models can be upgraded with an Appearance Package,
optional navigation systems, upgrade audio systems and improved wheels
and tires, if necessary.

Safety

Like the 2010 model, the 2011 Lexus LS offers plenty of safety
equipment and features. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety rated
the LS fairly well for a luxury sedan, though braking distances were
somewhat long. That being said, the LS comes standard with antilock disc
brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain
airbags, front-knee airbags, front head restraints and emergency
telematics. Optional safety features include rear-side airbags and an
Advanced Pre-Collision Safety system.

Fuel Economy

The massive 380 horsepower, 4.6L V8 engine is powerful
and makes for a fun driving experience, but it is also tough on fuel
economy. Both models are rated at 16 MPG city and 24 MPG highway.

Industry Reviews

Most reviewers agreed that the luxury options
available on the Lexus LS 460 rival any luxury sedan on the market.
Drivers seeking the lap of luxury have come to the right place. That
being said, the LS is sluggish at high speeds and when it corners it
moves like the big, bulky sedan it is. Buyers won’t  be flocking to the
460 for its driving performance; instead they will seek it out for its
luxurious interior options which make driving the Lexus a truly unique
experience.
